Kindergarten Library Curriculum
The student will:
- Follow library procedures and use library manners.
- Recognize alphabetical arrangement of books and self labels.
- Demonstrate proper book care.
- Hold print material correctly.
- Identify the cover, spine, spine label, and body of a book.
- Follow text from left to right and top to bottom.
- Experience a variety of literary forms to develop a love of reading, with an emphasis on repetitive stories, rhyming stories, poetry, alphabet books, classics, folktales, and Mother Goose.
- Recognize the roles of the author and illustrator.
- Distinguish between true and make-believe stories.
- Discuss characters, setting and events.
- Use pictures to make predictions about story content.
- Comprehend and verbally explain the meaning of the story.
- Retell familiar stories (beginning, middle and end).
- Understand that information comes from a variety of sources.
